About me:

Since joining The Labour Party as a teenager, I've campaigned actively for our shared values. I help those with vulnerabilities, I fight for equality and I advocate for access to education for all.

I am a qualified science teacher, the Vice Chair of Governors at a primary school and I'm a mum of two.

Having been fortunate to have lived through the years of a Labour Government, I have experienced what our party can achieve for the many. I am proud to be part of the Labour family and what we stand for.

I’ve acquired over twelve years in senior managerial roles. This practical business experience means I can make a real difference within the community, giving me an excellent understanding of local businesses. I also had the opportunity to work with union representatives seeking fair pay and benefits, equal opportunities, improved working contracts and conditions, and ensured employees were respected and had representation.

My Grandfather was an exceptionally hard-working North West Member of Parliament. I learnt from his example how to be a dedicated and diligent MP who truly represents the electorate, businesses, unions and the constituency, to make sure everyone counts. With such a good mentor, my aspirations and connections are firmly rooted. He is my political inspiration. I have the wealth of knowledge, experience and acquired skills that make me the ideal candidate.

I would welcome the opportunity to become an exceptional, visible, effective and high-quality candidate.

Campaigning:

The importance of campaigning

I am an experienced and passionate campaigner and have been canvassing, leafleting and building support for The Labour Party since I was a child.

Campaigning in 2022 local elections

I have held several roles within CLPs:

Campaign Committee Co-lead - I drive campaigns to motivate and mobilise members, particularly new members. I have been a key player in increasing the contact rate by 43.8% in a matter of weeks. By improving contact rates, the CLP secured £2,000 towards election funds. I have the key skills needed to win a seat and retain it in future elections due to my experience gained from my former CLP of Chorley, which was notoriously Conservative.

Local Government Committee Member – I work with other Labour representatives to implement Labour policy at a local level and I am part of election planning.

Over the years, I have identified key Labour voters through engagement, either by door knocking, telephone campaigning, street stalls and fundraisers. To me, campaigning is not just something done during elections, but a way to engage with constituents all year round.

My Labour party experience demonstrates my hard work is pivotal to getting campaigns successfully delivered and to obtaining substantial funds toward winning elections.

As a CLP Secretary – I am instrumental to bringing innovative suggestions to the CLP and part of decision-making which shapes the ideas that will lead the way forward. I aim to reach people beyond the meetings and increase membership numbers through my newsletter, ‘Getting Connected’ and championing younger voices.

Youth Advocator - I established a Young Labour group in Chorley in 1996. We actively campaigned in General Elections and targeted first-time voters. Through my lead this group grew, and not only attracted and identified first time Labour voters but convinced older adults to support Labour too. The youth vote and engagement is an area that I think is pivotal to our future.

Co-Fundraising Officer - In my current CLP I have raised over £1,500 in five months. The fundraisers are crucial to unify members and especially new members. My next fundraiser aims to introduce and expand the membership by inviting electors beyond the current membership.

Getting behind the Unions

My union activism has involved campaigns to improve the lives of working people and wider society. I am proud to stand by our unions to strengthen our fight for representation and benefit of all. We do deserve better.

Most recently, I increased the number of activists who turned out to support the fight to reverse Universal Credit cuts. I will be a strong voice in Westminster for those who need me, and will run an effective, visible and accessible constituency office to help my constituents.

I have been involved in campaigns against the privatisation of the NHS via the rushed through Health and Care Bill from this Government. I consistently update the CLP on active union campaigns and petitions to ensure they are visibly supported to show the Government we will not tolerate its failures.

I can give a seat the full-time commitment needed to campaign and build relationships to ensure we win at the general election. Winning is all about engagement, engagement, engagement. This is my strength and that is what makes me the ideal candidate.

My aim is to deliver a brighter, prosperous future for all, not just the elite, including those with vulnerabilities, facing disadvantages or who are less fortunate.

As a teacher of science, vice chair of school governors, and a school volunteer, I see how our schools continually struggle with financial pressures and emotional exhaustion. This Tory Government is failing our future generations and has offered little to address the widening gap in educational outcomes, for disadvantaged children. The pandemic has had a negative impact on schools and exacerbated inequalities in our education system further. With my board, we are forced to make difficult cutbacks of much needed resources to help the school’s financial survival. We need to invest in education, not cut funding. Our children deserve better.

Fighting Fracking

My position is clear, I am opposed to fracking. There is too much risk to public health, the environment, water contamination, and it fails to tackle climate change. There are cleaner and greener alternatives available. In 2018/2019 there was clear evidence that fracking was generating seismic movement in the North West, including an earthquake with a magnitude of 2.9 on the Richter scale, which is why fracking was suspended.

I pledge this and more, as well as our party's core objectives to promote ‘equality, social justice and compassion’.
